EQUESTRIAN ISSUES Bay Area Trails Survey: Bay Area Barns and Trails has contracted to create a 3' x 4' wall map of the Bay Area with highways, county boundaries, public lands, lakes, regional and city/county horse trails. This info can be transmitted via e-mail between agencies. (See http://www.greeninfo.org/html/about_gis.htm) She has a list of all known trails in the Bay Area, but needs "local" input if they are horse friendly or not. Contact Barbara to get a copy of the list, (415) 383-6283 or e-mail: babtt@earthlink.net or check the website: http://www.bayareabarnsandtrails.org

Save Mount Diablo: The Contra Costa Board of Supervisors approved an offer in May to purchase a conservation easement at the Mt. Diablo State Park's Northgate entrance, adjacent to Diablo Foothills Regional Preserve and above the Pine Creek detention basin wetlands. The Mt. Diablo Gateway Alliance and Save Mount Diablo now must come up with $1.6 million to pay for it. We need to help them save the land we need for the trails we want to ride. Send contributions to Save Mt. Diablo, 1196 Boulevard Way #10, Walnut Creek, CA 94595. Other ways to help: 1) write to Gov Gray Davis: governor@governor.ca.gov and ask for some Prop. 40 money from the State Park's (DPR) share and from the Wildlife Conservation Board (WCB) to go to Mt. Diablo State Park and the Marsh Creek-Morgan Territory area.

Development growth is getting drastic as we all know… two other areas can use some help. Tassajara Valley has 1,000 acres left inside the County Urban Limit Line that would generate 13,000 car trips daily among other disasters if developed. Write, fax, call or e-mail your supervisor NOT to approve the development, but if approved, to protect the ridgeline on Alamo creek without development; add the Alamo Creek ridgeline area and lands to the south to Hidden Valley Open Space, and require an open space buffer and trail corridor along the Urban Limit Line connecting from Hidden Valley north to Camino Tasssajara. Write to Mark DeSaulnier (Concord, Pleasant Hill, Walnut Creek) at: Dist4@bos.co.contra-costa.ca.us; Gayle Uilkema (Martinez, Lafayette, Moraga, Orinda) Dist2@bos.co.contra-costa.ca.us; Donna Gerber (San Ramon, Danville, Walnut Creek, Brentwood) Dist3@bos.co.contra-costa.ca.us; John Gioia (Richmond, El Cerrito), is at: Dist1@bos.co.contra-costa.ca.us; and Federal Glover (Pittsburg, Antioch) is at: Dist5@bos.co.contra-costa.ca.us

Antioch City Council is voting on FUA#1 (Future Urban Area #1) which would put 8700 more houses south of Lone Tree and next to Black Diamond Mines Preserve. Residents of the area should write asking them to preserve the Higgins Ranch, create buffers to Black Diamond Mines including everything west of Empire Mine Road, and to respect the county Urban Limit Line and reject projects outside of it. E-mail the City Manager, mike_ramsey@ci.antioch.ca.us
